Despite port cargo growth, the Moncton ramp was able to reduce Downtown Halifax truck traffic by 10%. The Empty Truck container park in Burnside has the ability to further reduce Downtown Halifax truck traffic by an additional 10% (source: Karen Oldfield presentation to Port Stakeholders, May 5, 2018)
Investment of a truck-to-rail infrastructure project (announced spring 2019) will be complete between 2022 and 2024. This will remove 75% of all port-related truck traffic from Downtown streets.
