Programs and tracking of public spaces and events

Public space usage guidelines exist for Grand Parade (HRM) and Waterfront (Develop NS).

In 2020, HRM, in conjunction with DHBC, Argyle members, Restaurant Association of NS and other stakeholders, created new event guidelines for Argyle Street.

Self-assessment of 2019 Downtown Crew was positive.

DHBC survey to be conducted winter 2020.

Memorial Cup Argyle events highlighted challenges with capacity on Argyle Street, as well as logistical issues created by requirements of sponsors, security, and liquor relations. This led to the creation of new Argyle St. event guidelines.

Cornwallis Park was used as a centre for public events for the holiday season.

Develop NS manages their own event strategy for the waterfront. This includes dealing with the challenges of lost event space due to development, as well as new event space being created (ie, SaltYard was created in 2019; Queens Marque will come online for summer 2020)
